About the job

As a backend focused Software Engineer, you'll design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and API's that support Turners digital platforms. A strong emphasis on microservices, cloud-based systems, and data. Working within a cross-functional squad, you'll collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Testers, and SREs to deliver secure, high quality solutions from design through to production. 

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
• Fix defects and improve the stability and performance of existing systems
• Translate business requirements and user stories into robust technical solutions
• Participate in all stages of the SDLC, from solution design through to testing and deployment
• Write unit and automated tests to ensure quality, security, and maintainability
• Take a security first mindset across development, data handling, and deployments
• Work with business stakeholders to groom and refine stories that meet customer needs
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, practices, and pipelines
• Present technical ideas and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What you’ll bring

• Strong backend problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions
• A genuine passion for software engineering and modern backend architecture
• A disciplined, quality-first approach to development
• A test-driven or quality driven mindset
• The ability to collaborate effectively within autonomous, cross-functional teams

Technical bits

• 3+ years experience building backend microservices using an object-oriented language such as .Net Core, Java, Node, Python, or Go
• Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, and working with data and databases in commercial, production environments
• Proven understanding of secure coding practices, performance optimization, and building scalable systems
• Experience or exposure to cloud platforms, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes - EKS/AKS/ECR), and CI/CD pipelines or modern DevOps practices
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
