Software Engineer

About the job
As a backend focused Software Engineer, you'll design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and API's that support Turners digital platforms. A strong emphasis on microservices, cloud-based systems, and data. Working within a cross-functional squad, you'll collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Testers, and SREs to deliver secure, high quality solutions from design through to production.
What you’ll do
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs
- Fix defects and improve the stability and performance of existing systems
- Translate business requirements and user stories into robust technical solutions
- Participate in all stages of the SDLC, from solution design through to testing and deployment
- Write unit and automated tests to ensure quality, security, and maintainability
- Take a security first mindset across development, data handling, and deployments
- Work with business stakeholders to groom and refine stories that meet customer needs
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, practices, and pipelines
- Present technical ideas and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What you’ll bring
- Strong backend problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions
- A genuine passion for software engineering and modern backend architecture
- A disciplined, quality-first approach to development
- A test-driven or quality driven mindset
- The ability to collaborate effectively within autonomous, cross-functional teams
Technical bits
- 3+ years experience building backend microservices using an object-oriented language such as .Net Core, Java, Node, Python, or Go
- Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs, and working with data and databases in commercial, production environments
- Proven understanding of secure coding practices, performance optimization, and building scalable systems
- Experience or exposure to cloud platforms, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes - EKS/AKS/ECR), and CI/CD pipelines or modern DevOps practices
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
