Assistant Accountant

Who would suit this role?

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with numbers, analysing financial data, and building positive working relationships across the business. You'll be highly organised, have excellent attention to detail, and take pride in delivering accurate and timely financial information.

This role would suit someone with a tertiary qualification in accounting or commerce and at least three years' accounting experience who is looking to broaden their skills across financial reporting, management accounting, accounts payable, compliance, and business support.

You'll be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities, and collaborating with stakeholders across the business. Strong Excel skills, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to learn are essential.

What does the role entail?

  • Assist in the accurate and timely preparation of financial accounts
  • Manage standing journals, intercompany journals, month-end journals, and accruals
  • Analyse and reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Assist with ESG reporting through supplier data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Review monthly Profit & Loss reports for allocated branches and assist with branch queries
  • Analyse supplier procurement expenditure and month-end reporting data
  • Process and reconcile company credit card transactions
  • Manage international payments, foreign currency purchases, and supplier automatic payments
  • Administer the company vehicle fleet, including licence renewals and vehicle-related fines
  • Support year-end statutory audit requirements and compliance activities
  • Complete Accounts Payable processing, reconciliations, and payment runs
  • Assist with procurement analysis and reporting as required
  • Provide support and cover for other finance team members when required

What do we need from you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting, or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum three years' accounting experience
  • Broad financial knowledge and experience within a finance environment
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills and strong computer literacy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships across the business
  • Experience working in a finance team environment would be advantageous
  • Experience within a decentralised organisation would be beneficial
